Subsequently, the essential JDK libraries for common tasks such as I/O, collections, multi-threading and GUI programming are treated. The course then moves to the advanced level, covering subjects such as network programming (sockets), distributed objects (RMI/CORBA) and object persistency with SQL through Java DataBase Connectivity (JDBC), object databases and XML. The last part of the curriculum covers Java Enterprise technologies (J2EE), in particular multi-tier architectures, servlets, Java Server Pages (JSPs) and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs). The main focus is on building server-side Java applications, although client aspects such as applets and GUI programming with the JDK Abstract Windowing Toolkit (AWT) are also covered. Programming is an important aspect of this course. Students will spend about 50% of the time working on lesson-specific programming exercises, as well as a real-world development case that will run throughout the course. |
